 | | | | | 50 Year Vision | | | | Common Loon | Stakeholder Process Background
The 50 Year Vision Stakeholder process is now complete. The process involved over 300 conservation experts in 35 meetings throughout the state. The meetings began in Hackensack in October 2006 and ended in Baudette in August 2007.
Coordination off the process was conducted through partnership of the Campaign for Conservation, the University of Minnesota Extension Office, the University of St. Thomas Geography Department and Conservation Planners Steve Chaplin and Steve Hobbs.
In addition to the excellent advice and feedback attained through the regional meetings, the Campaign for Conservation relied heavily on existing conservation plans. Plans to clean up Minnesota's lakes and rivers, restore wildlife populations, and to provide for a growing populations park and recreation needs were all incorporated into the first Regional Template.
These ideas and concepts were vetted through the stakeholder process. The process then identified additional threats, challenges and goals for the region. Working documents and template drafts are available by clicking on "Meeting Materials" to the right.
The final template represents the best ideas for each region about how to coordinate that region's conservation with coming threats over the next 50 Years
Where we go from here ...
The final templates will form the basis for an edited and published report we call the 50 Year Vision. This statewide vision of conservation for Minnesota will be a credible and attainable collection of conservation goals that are embraced by Minnesotans from all walks of life. We hope and believe the 50 Year Vision will be a catalyst for significant new funding and policies that will prepare Minnesota for a new era of conservation.
